BEST OF THE REST | CORK

Below are some of my favourite cork items I've chanced apon of late....it does seem to be the material du jour but I love it none the less for its functional and humble qualities...I am slightly cork crazy at the moment...I even have cork handles on my brand new bicycle....enjoy!

Lots of cork eyecandy here..but the drum has to be my favourite!

ETTORE SOTTSASS

Form seems to over rule function here..and perhaps with a dash of so wrong but so right! I am in love with Italian designer Ettore Sottass' flamboyant creations from the 80's...
you can read more about him here, and explore his 80's wonders here

ESTABLISHED & SONS / SEBASTIAN WRONG /RICHARD WOODS

Aptly described as "Bauhaus meets loony tunes" the Buggs light pictured is a collaboration between Established & Sons and Sebastian Wrong.

The bricks and mortar chair and wrong woods cabinet is a collaboration between Established & sons,Sebasitan Wrong and Richard Woods.

All these pieces have that right but wrong feeling about them and definitely don't take them selves too seriously, which is always good to see..the price tag is no joke though!
Buggs light available online at yoox

//Rock on...//

So, there have been moments where I have wanted an Eames rocker..very very much.. but now I have discovered that I can make my own rocker from any chair I so desire and this makes me very happy indeed..

Why have a design classic when you can make almost any four-legged chair into a real rocking chair with a universal attachment I ask you!...I have one problem though, oooms who invented this work of genius don't seem to sell them on their shop..Where can I get hold of this wondrous attachment??

//Aldo Tura//

Amazing bar and tea carts by Aldo Tura..whats a home without a bar trolly!

//Lina Nordquist//

I like this 'family of chairs' by Lina Nordquist, available to buy at design house stockholm ( you may recognise a few cos items when browsing)...anyway we are so used to buying a set of identical chairs, this is a refreshing idea as despite all being unique they are from the same family, a foursome of traditional Swedish stickback chairs, Separately presententing themselves as individuals...lovely.

//Judith seng//

'Trift explores the ideal of perfect, high-gloss surfaces by creating and destroying them within the same object.' Judith seng.
I have to admit however I was drawn to this work on a more basic level ...I just find them to be aesthetically beautiful objects...

//com-pa-ny//

I remember stumbling across the com-pa-ny site a long time ago and foolishly not bookmarking it...for a while I thought it was lost forever!! until mr von found it for me this morning. My favourite product was, and still is the dancing shoes..a nostalgic memory of childhood for most of us..but the whole site has so many endearing and slightly bizarre products its well worth a look.
