Remember seeing this work last year and it really made me smile!, I stumbled across it on my travels again today...I absolutley LOVE Laura Mackness. Her work reminds me of the amazing work of Elsa Schiaparelli and Roberta di Camerino and her colour pallette is impeccable!..super duper!

AMES ROOM

A new discovery for me yesterday was the Ames room!

and heres the wiki wiki lo down...

An Ames room is a distorted room that is used to create an optical illusion. It was invented by American ophthalmologist Adelbert Ames, Jr. in 1934, and constructed in the following year.

As a result of this optical illusion, a person standing in one corner appears to the observer to be a giant, while a person standing in the other corner appears to be a dwarf. The illusion is convincing enough that a person walking back and forth from the left corner to the right corner appears to grow or shrink....how amazing is that! I may have to make one of my rooms an ames room when I eventually purchase my own house...but would it effect the price of resale??

YURI SUZUKI

I popped down to KK oulet yesterday for the opening of Yuri Suzuki's show and it was so much fun..I think I got a little over excited by it all. It was a shame that you were unable to touch a lot of the items..or hear them in action but his sound inventions are non the less..amazing! people were invited to press and record their own records..which I believe is as novel as it gets!...pictured above is the musical kettle, I like the idea of elevating the everyday into something extraordinary, and I think this piece does just that... As the kettle boils it whistles your favourite tune...what more could you ask for when its time for a cuppa....

Sound Interjection! will be part of the Anti Design Festival and the ICON Design Trail both of which run 18-26 September.

I like the combination of craft and commentary...their site is well worth a look.
